Tongkat ali for men: what 25 mg in a HoneyBoost gummy means
Tongkat ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is a Southeast Asian root. Each HoneyBoost gummy prints 25 mg of a 100:1 root extract, equal to about 2,500 mg of root (25 x 100). The studies we read used 200 mg a day of extract, eight times that, and none tested HoneyBoost. NIH also lists tongkat ali as a possible rare cause of liver injury.

What is tongkat ali?
Tongkat ali is the common name of Eurycoma longifolia, a tree from Southeast Asia whose root is dried and made into extracts.
It is sold in many men's supplements, usually with words about vitality. The HoneyBoost panel row reads "Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) Root Extract 100:1", with 25 mg beside it (HoneyBoost label). It is the largest of the six extract rows, and the gummy is a dietary supplement, not a drug and not a capsule.
| Name on the label | Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) Root Extract 100:1 |
|---|---|
| What it is | An extract of a Southeast Asian root; at 100:1 the label says 25 mg of extract is equivalent to 2,500 mg of root (25 mg x 100) |
| What it is sold for | Sold for male vitality |
| Amount per gummy (label) | 25 mg |
| Amount used in research | Open-label studies at 200 mg a day; a 4-week trial in stressed adults; a meta-analysis of five trials |
| What the studies found | A 4-week trial in 63 stressed adults found lower cortisol and higher salivary testosterone with a standardised tongkat ali extract. Two open-label studies gave 200 mg a day of extract for one to three months to men with low testosterone symptoms or fertility concerns, with no control group. A meta-analysis of five randomised trials reported higher total testosterone but said more research is required. The gummy has 25 mg of extract, about one eighth of 200 mg. Several of these studies were run by groups tied to the extract's makers. |
| Main caution | NIH's LiverTox rates tongkat ali a possible rare cause of liver injury and notes there are no long-term human data. Stop and get care for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain. |
The numbers
How much tongkat ali is in one HoneyBoost gummy?
One gummy holds 25 mg of tongkat ali root extract at 100:1, which the label says is equivalent to 2,500 mg of root.
The sum is 25 mg times 100, which is 2,500 mg. A 100:1 ratio means about 100 parts of raw root went into 1 part of extract. So 25 mg of extract is the concentrate of about 2.5 g of root. It is not 2.5 g of root in the gummy (HoneyBoost label).
The studies below gave 200 mg of extract a day. The gummy has 25 mg, one eighth of that (25/200), or 12.5%. Move through the lab to compare the two bars.

Next to the amount studies used
Trials used 1,500 to 3,000 mg a day of maca powder and 2,400 mg of a dry extract
A ratio says how much raw herb went into the extract, not how strong it is.
| Row | Extract per gummy | Ratio | Printed equivalent | Studies used |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maca root | 10 mg | 10:1 | 100 mg | Trials used 1,500 to 3,000 mg a day of maca powder and 2,400 mg of a dry extract |
| Horny goat weed | 10 mg | 8:1 | 80 mg | No human dose found |
| Damiana leaf | 10 mg | 5:1 | 50 mg | No human dose found for damiana alone |
| Tongkat ali root | 25 mg | 100:1 | 2,500 mg | Two open-label studies used 200 mg a day of extract |
Extract mg × ratio = the equivalent the label prints (10 × 10 = 100, 10 × 8 = 80, 10 × 5 = 50, 25 × 100 = 2,500). Study amounts are what the linked trials gave, not what this gummy does; none tested HoneyBoost.
The studies
Does tongkat ali raise testosterone? What the studies found
Some small studies saw higher testosterone with tongkat ali, but they were short, often had no control group, and used much more than the gummy holds.
In a 4-week trial of 63 stressed adults, men and women pooled, cortisol fell 16% and salivary testosterone rose 37%; the abstract gives no dose (Talbott 2013, tongkat ali stress). In an open-label study, 76 of 320 men with symptoms of late-onset low testosterone took 200 mg a day for one month, with no control group (Tambi 2012, tongkat ali LOH). Another study gave 200 mg a day to 350 men with fertility concerns; only 75 finished 3 months, and it had no control group (Tambi 2010, tongkat ali fertility).
A 2022 meta-analysis of five randomized trials reported higher total testosterone (standardized mean difference 1.352) and said more research is required (Leisegang 2022, tongkat ali meta). A review of herbs and testosterone rated tongkat ali "moderate" (Santos 2019, herbs and testosterone). Several studies came from groups tied to extract makers.
No trial tested HoneyBoost, and none tested 25 mg. These results are not a promise about the gummy.
| Study | Who | Dose and time | Control group |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stress trial | 63 adults, men and women | Not in abstract; 4 weeks | Randomized |
| Late-onset low testosterone | 76 of 320 men | 200 mg a day; 1 month | None |
| Fertility | 350 men, 75 finished | 200 mg a day; 3 months | None |
| HoneyBoost label | Adults 18+ | 25 mg per gummy | No trial |
Safety
Is tongkat ali safe for your liver?
NIH's LiverTox lists tongkat ali as a possible rare cause of liver injury, and it has no long-term human safety data.
LiverTox gives it a likelihood score of D, one case of jaundice followed a multi-ingredient product, and traditional use is about 100 to 400 mg a day (LiverTox, tongkat ali). Nothing says HoneyBoost was involved in any case, and rare does not mean never.
Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain. If you have liver disease, ask a clinician before taking any product with tongkat ali.
Sexual-enhancement supplements as a group have been found with hidden drug ingredients in FDA warnings (FDA tainted sexual products). We have no lab report for HoneyBoost, and we do not say it contains any.

Can you take tongkat ali with prescription medicines?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first, because we found no interaction list for tongkat ali and the label itself says not to take the gummy with other medications.
Keep taking prescribed medicine. Ask especially if you take nitrates, erectile-dysfunction drugs, blood pressure, Parkinson's, MAO-inhibitor, diabetes or blood-thinning medicines, or if you have a heart condition. The label also says not to use it if pregnant, lactating or under 18.
Chest pain, fainting or trouble breathing: call 911. A painful erection, or one lasting 4 hours or more, is an emergency: go to the emergency room (Urology Care, priapism).
Taking it
How much tongkat ali should a man take?
We cannot give a dose, because the wrap prints no suggested-use line; the panel's serving size is 1 gummy (4.2 g).
Follow the bottle and ask the order desk and a clinician. One gummy a day for a bottle of 30 gummies is the serving size, not a label direction. Low testosterone is diagnosed with symptoms plus repeated morning blood tests, not by a supplement (Endocrine Society testosterone). See a clinician for erection problems or low desire.

FAQ
HoneyBoost questions people ask
What is tongkat ali in HoneyBoost?
It is a root extract of Eurycoma longifolia at 100:1, 25 mg per gummy. The label says that equals 2,500 mg of root (25 x 100). It is the biggest of six extract rows in a gummy that is not a capsule.
Does tongkat ali work for men?
Small studies reported higher testosterone, but most were open-label, short and used 200 mg a day. A meta-analysis of five randomized trials said more research is required. No trial tested HoneyBoost or 25 mg.
How much tongkat ali was used in studies?
Two open-label studies gave 200 mg a day of extract for one to three months. The gummy has 25 mg, one eighth of that. Traditional use is listed by NIH as about 100 to 400 mg a day.
Can tongkat ali hurt the liver?
NIH's LiverTox lists it as a possible rare cause of liver injury, with no long-term human data. Stop and get care for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain. Nothing says HoneyBoost was involved.
What does a 100:1 tongkat ali extract mean?
About 100 parts of raw root went into 1 part of extract, so 25 mg of extract is the concentrate of about 2,500 mg of root. It describes how the extract was made, not how strong it is or what it does.
Does the HoneyBoost label say how to take it?
The panel gives a serving size of 1 gummy (4.2 g), but the wrap prints no suggested-use line. Follow the bottle and ask the order desk and a clinician. Do not take it if pregnant, lactating, under 18 or on other medications.
